Product Care

At Main Street Jewelers of Parker, we want your fine jewelry to remain as breathtaking as the day you first put it on. Whether it is a custom engagement ring, a luxury timepiece, or a cherished family heirloom, proper care and maintenance will ensure your pieces last for generations. Here is our guide to keeping your jewelry in pristine condition.

General Everyday Care

  • Know When to Take It Off: Remove your jewelry before swimming in pools or hot tubs (chlorine degrades metals), exercising, gardening, or doing heavy manual labor.

  • Chemical Avoidance: Keep your pieces away from harsh household chemicals, lotions, cosmetics, hairspray, and perfumes. Always apply these products before putting on your jewelry.

  • Proper Storage: Store your jewelry in a fabric-lined jewelry box, keeping pieces separated so they do not scratch one another. Diamond jewelry is particularly hard and can easily scratch softer metals and other gemstones if stored loosely.

Diamonds & Hard Gemstones

  • Routine Cleaning: To restore the brilliance of diamonds, sapphires, and rubies, soak the piece in a mixture of warm water and mild dish soap for 10-15 minutes.

  • Gentle Scrubbing: Gently scrub behind and around the stones using a soft-bristled baby toothbrush to remove trapped dirt, lotions, and oils.

  • Rinse and Dry: Rinse thoroughly under warm running water (always ensure the sink drain is plugged!) and pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

Precious Metals

  • Gold & Platinum: While highly durable, gold and platinum can develop minor surface scratches or a dull patina over time. Clean them gently with a soft polishing cloth. For a flawless, mirror-like finish, bring them to our store for professional polishing and rhodium replating (for white gold).

  • Sterling Silver: Silver naturally tarnishes when exposed to air, moisture, and sulfur. Prevent tarnish by wearing your silver frequently and storing it in an airtight container or anti-tarnish bag. Use a specialized silver polishing cloth to safely remove tarnish and restore its shine.

Pearls & Delicate Gemstones

  • Handle with Care: Emeralds, opals, pearls, and turquoise are exceptionally delicate. Never place these in an ultrasonic cleaner or expose them to harsh chemicals, steam, or extreme temperature changes.

  • Pearl Specifics: Pearls require natural moisture to maintain their luster. Wipe them gently with a soft, slightly damp cloth after wearing to remove body oils. Remember the golden rule for pearls: they should always be the last thing you put on and the first thing you take off.

Professional Maintenance

The best way to protect your investment is through regular professional inspections. We recommend bringing your everyday pieces to Main Street Jewelers of Parker every six to twelve months.

  • Our bench jewelers will thoroughly check for loose stones, worn prongs, and structural integrity to prevent lost diamonds before they happen.

  • We offer complimentary professional ultrasonic cleaning and steam polishing to keep your jewelry looking brand new.
